Chyjice

Chyjice is situated in the valley of the Mrlina, formerly Leština, which is up to 2.5 kilometres long. The village is distinguished by its atypical buildings similar to the outlying foothill villages. On the northern side of the village stretches Chyjická stráň, which was declared a natural monument in 1990 thanks to its rich grove flora.

For a long time the first written mention of the village was considered to be in 1323, but during the preparations for the 700th anniversary celebrations it was discovered that the correct date was 1324, when the village first appeared in historical records. The next mention dates from 1360, when the village changed hands. In 1369 the owners became Oldřich of Semín and the widow Anna, after which the village belonged to Markvart Chyjíček, who gave the village its name. From 1546 Chyjice ceased to be an independent farm and was incorporated into the Veliš manor, which was administered by Henry Matyáš of Thurn and later by Albrecht von Wallenstein. After 1635 they were acquired by the Schlik family, who owned them until 1848.

Chyjice experienced its greatest boom from 1850 until World War II. In 1900 there were 102 buildings and 546 inhabitants, in 1921 there were 473 inhabitants. The village had a Volunteer Fire Brigade (1894), a Savings and Credit Union (1904) and a Sokol Sports Union (1925).
